MetaWare does z coming out

Le Pecq, 23 March 2009 - With the economic meltdown impacting IT budgets, reducing the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and efficiently approaching to IT spending have become key. For IBM mainframe customers, quickly replacing costly and outdated technologies such as fourth-generation programming language (4GL), pre-relational databases, or the mainframe itself is a great opportunity for TCO reduction.

Anticipating the move within the IBM mainframe customers, MetaWare is developing cost-effective and productive solutions enabling System z users to reduce their TCO by transforming and automatically migrating mainframe technologies and achieve higher levels of IT productivity.

Based on Refine powerful and highly automated migration technology, MetaWare solutions for z/transformation are designed both for mainframe long-term, strategic operating platform as well as for users anticipating the decommissioning of their z/OS environment and include:

  • LANGUAGE TRANSLATION – the automated translation of 4GLs such as Mantis, Natural, or VAGEN or procedural languages such as PL/1 allow customers to leverage IBM COBOL LE which encounters a more viable and prosperous future while eliminating software fees that have become too expensive in the recent years.
  • DATABASE CONVERSION – the automated migration of pre-relational databases such as IMS/DB, IDMS or DATACOM in the z/OS environment allows customers to solve technical and HR challenges and eliminate the costs of databases and related tools while moving to IBM DB2.
  • REPLATFORMING – incrementally offloading or totally migrating off mainframe applications onto modern platforms is suited for customers who already invested in Unix, Linux or Windows and eager to achieve substantial savings resulting from these cost-effective technologies and services, while enabling their mainframe staff to progressively transition towards modern development and maintenance standards.

z/transformation solutions from MetaWare have already proven a dramatic impact on the Return of Investment while preserving the existing code base and data for a number of large European mainframe shops.

"Within the last 9 months, we have seen a dramatic shift in the systems our customers want to migrate. From a relatively well-balanced breakdown between IBM System z, Bull GCOS and HP3000 systems, modernizing the z/OS environment, downsizing or decommissioning the System z have seen increased uptake and are purely driven by TCO reduction," said Jean-Luc Bellet, Chief Executive Officer for Metaware.

"In difficult times,
every dollar saved is a dollar straight onto the bottom line and with our leading solution, we believe the days of predatory pricing practices by mercantile IT providers are on the way out and customers have the leverage Standards-based alternatives that are just as advanced and reliable, and in some cases, cost up to 90% less."
